Radhakrishna Mathur becomes the first Deputy Governor of Ladakh, taking oath of office this morning

New Delhi, Oct 31, 2019, Thursday

Radhakrishna Mathur was sworn in as the Deputy Governor of Ladakh in Union Territory this morning on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He was sworn in as Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir.

To this day, Ladakh has become the new Union Territory. There will be no assembly here like Chandigarh. The administration of the area will be administered by the Lieutenant Governor through the Central Home Department. There will be an assembly in Kashmir. From today, all three areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have come under the central government's administration.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the laws of the country will come into force today which did not apply before. The 153 special laws that were in force earlier today will be destroyed. Instead of Urdu, the administration will operate in Hindi and English in Jammu and Kashmir from today. Jammu and Kashmir will have a legislative assembly like Delhi and administration will be like Delhi. The responsibility of law and order will now be directly with the central government.

The Deputy Governor will work directly under the guidance of the Center. The separation in Jammu and Kashmir under special status would be void today. The money accounts, defense accounts, etc., which were formerly Jammu and Kashmir, have been abolished. The separate flag of Jammu and Kashmir has also been destroyed. Earlier, Chief Minister Wazir Alam was also called the Prime Minister.
