Know where today lives and what Sardar Patel's family does

Sardar Patel was opposed to racism in politics. He is said to have given strict instructions that as long as he is in Delhi his family members will not come to Delhi or contact him. The reason was that no one would misuse his name.

Their family, however, was not extensive. Patel's family had a son and a daughter who became active in politics after independence. So let's know where the members of Sardar Patel's family are now and what they do.

Maniben

Maniben was Sardar Patel's eldest daughter then his son was a brother. Maniben Patel was born in 1903 while Diabhai was born in 1906. Maniben was following her husband's path in public life. He died in 1988 and for the last time he followed the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. Maniben remained unmarried for a lifetime.

Talking about the political life of Maniben, he contested for the Congress from the Kheda Lok Sabha seat for the first time in 1952 and he was victorious. He was victorious from Anand seat in 1957 but lost in 1962.

Gujarat became the new state and the role of the Congress in the MahaGujarat movement created an atmosphere against the party which led to the losing of the election from the Anand seat. At this meeting Maniben's fight was against Narendra Singh Mehda of the Independent Party, who contested from Vallabh Vidyanagar's founder brother Kaka's party.

Maniben remained in the Rajya Sabha from 1964 to 1970. Around 1970 he left Congress. Maniben opted to stay with Congressmen like Morarji Desai against Indira Gandhi's Congress party in the fierce battle of Congress at that time.

On Congress ticket, he won in Sabarkantha and reached the Lok Sabha again. In 1977 Maniben Mehsana fought from the seat and won with over 1 lakh votes due to the anti-Congress wave. He passed away in 1990 and until that time he was working with an organization affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi.

Baby brother

Maniben's younger brother, Diabhai, studied in Mumbai. He completed his PG studies from Gujarat Vidyapeeth. For the first time in 1939 he became a member of the Bombay Municipal Corporation and was a member of the corporation for 18 years. In 1944 he became mayor of Bombay.

In 1957, freedom fighter and prisoner Diabhai Patel was about to enter national politics in the Quit India movement, but he felt that Pandit Nehru was not ready to extend Patel's legacy in the party, so he left the Congress. His brother, along with Indulal Yagnik and other leaders, formed a party in the name of MahaGujarat Janata Parishad.

Diabhai wanted to contest on the party ticket of the MahaGujarat Janata Parishad, but he was offended by Maniben's criticism of his father's fight against the party and then abandoned his decision to contest.

However, in 1958, his brother became a member of the Rajya Sabha as a member of the MahaGujarat Janata Parishad. Meanwhile, an independent party was formed in 1959. Many aides like Sardar Patel's very close and trusted brother uncle joined the newly independent party and his left brother joined the party.

In 1964, Diya Bhai was elected to the Rajya Sabha as an independent party candidate. He has been in the Rajya Sabha three times since 1958 and died in 1973.

The wife and the nieces remained unsuccessful

Diabhai's wife and sister-in-law were also active in politics, though they did not succeed. Since Diyabhai Patel is a Rajya Sabha MP, his wife Bhanumati Patel was elected from the Bhavnagar and Pasha Patel from Sabarkantha in the 1962 Lok Sabha elections. Pashbhai Patel was also a businessman. But both of them did not win the election.

Diabhai had two weddings

Diabhai Patel married two. They were first married to Yashodaben. When Yashodaben passed away, Diabhai was 27 years old and he married again. He had two sons from his second wife, Bhanumati Ben. Whose names were Vipin and Gautam. Both Vipin and Gautam stayed away from politics.

In 1991, when Sardar Patel was honored with Bharat Ratna posthumously, his grandson Vipin Bhai came to receive the award. After the death of Vipin Bhai, his younger brother Gautam Patel is now the heir to Sardar Patel. However, he is far from the legacy of Sardar Patel and his name.
