14 quintals of exotic fish were found in the truck's water tank

Police are also amazed at how people are being treated for smuggling and illegal trafficking of goods. Police recently arrested 14 quintals of restricted mangrove fish in a truck's water tank.

According to information received by the police, the fish was being trafficked in a truck traveling from West Bengal to Haryana. Since 2000, fish farming or trafficking has been legally banned in the country.

Police seized the truck by setting a trap. In its body a tank of water was made, from which the plastic cover was fitted inside to prevent leakage of water and the fish was covered in it. About 14 quintals (about three hundred kg) of mangrove fish were caught. Police arrested three persons in connection with the incident.

This fishery is carnivorous and eats human flesh in addition to other sponges. That is why it was banned. In just three to four months after birth, their weight gains from two and a half to three kilos. It was declared health-restricted as it had 80 percent lead in its body. The fish is sold in the market for 40 rupees a kilo.
