No case of sedition against Kanaiya: Delhi's AAP government refuses to approve

New Delhi, September 6, 2019, Friday

Former president of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student union Kanaiya Kumar and Delhi government's refusal to allow the sedition case on the other nine, it was learned that the case of sedition was not going on now.

Delhi Home Minister Satyendra Jain said the evidence collected by the police does not create a case of treason against these people. As per the provisions of the law, permission of the State Government is required to make a case of sedition against any person. Such a case cannot be made solely on the basis of the evidence presented by the police.

A government spokesman said the matter would be reported to the police court and the deputy governor.

This was the case from 2016 onwards. A total of nine people, including Kanaiya Kumar and Umar Khalid, were accused of shouting alleged objectionable slogans in the university premises.
