Ganeshotsav is being celebrated in various parts of the country including Gujarat, Maharashtra. The festival was started by Lokmanya Tilak in Pune in the year 1. Cultural events of music, dance and drama are also organized at the Ganesh festival in Pune. Hence Pune is also called the City of Ganesh. However, the time was different when the countrymen lived under British slavery six years ago.

The British strictly enforced Article 2 to prevent protests in Pune as well. Under this section more than five people were punished severely by the British police for violating the law. The first public Ganesh Utsav was started in Shaniwarwada, also known as Shaniwar Peth. It was created in the year 8, under the Maratha rule. Earlier, Maratha dynasty used to celebrate Ganesh festival in this place.

Thus, Ganpati was established in the home of everyone in Maharashtra but it is thanks to the efforts of the public Ganesh Utsav Tilak. He also established Ganesh at his residence Kesariwada. The biggest advantage of the Ganapati festival was that the British police could not take any disciplinary action against the crowd.

Ganesh Tilak was talking about the activities of independence in Ganesh Pandal by inviting countable persons every day. According to one information, the first Ganeshotsav also visited Bipinchandva Pal of Bengal and Lala Lajpatray of Punjab.

After the success of the first Ganeshotsav which was held for the first time, 3 statues of Ganapati were established. With the increasing popularity of Ganeshotsav, Ganesh was also established in cities like Ahmednagar, Mumbai and Nagpur. As thousands of people gathered through the Ganesh festival, the festival also became a medium of national consciousness.
