Establish the same civil code, the Supreme Court once again urged the Center

The country's highest court reminded the central government again that the establishment of a uniform civil code in the country decreases in power. The Supreme Court had said that the drafters of the constitution also wanted this.

The Supreme Court said that despite our encouragement, the Court is sorry that nothing has been done in this direction. The Supreme Court cited the Goa example in this regard and said that Goa is the norm in this matter where there is a common law for all. Four of the Muslims who are married in Goa cannot marry. Similarly, no Muslim husband in Goa can divorce by word of mouth.

The Supreme Court questioned why such an ideal law could not be instituted across the country.

A bench comprising Justices Deepak Gupta and Justice Aniruddh Bose said that in the 33rd clause of the Constitution in Part Four, which is in line with the principles of the state in the constitution of the country, the promoters expressed hope that the same civil code would be implemented in every corner of the country. The Uniform Citizens Act will come into force. But to date, no government has attempted to say that.

In its 31-page verdict, the Supreme Court said that the law relating to Hindus was drafted in 1956 but it is regrettable that despite the encouragement of the Supreme Court, nothing has been done in the direction of enactment of equal citizenship laws across the country. The Supreme Court also said that the central government needs to be proactive in this direction.
