Local driver killed in army truck raid in Anantnag

Anantnag, Ta. August 26, 2019, Monday

After the abolition of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, there was no incident of violence, although now, in some places, minor violence has started.

In Srinagar, the stoneworkers were active and tried to incite violence but were stopped. However, now an Anantnag has been hit by locals, in which a truck driver has been killed.

A 42-year-old truck driver was stoned to death in Anantnag by local locals. According to police, the stoneworkers believed that the truck belonged to the army and therefore began to surround and stone it. Local resident Noor Mohammad Dar was killed. The deceased is a resident of the area where the incident took place.

The driver suffered a bruising stone on the part of his head, which was then taken to a local hospital for treatment. However, he was later taken from a local hospital to SKIMS Hospital in Sawaira where he was pronounced dead.

A similar incident happened earlier with a local girl in which the girl was severely injured in the stone-pelting scandal, and was later taken to treatment.

Police have lodged an FIR in both the cases and have filed murder charges, along with those who were involved in the attack. At present, the police have arrested two people and conducted further investigation.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the stoneworkers assaulted the truck as belonging to the army, so that the main glass of the truck was broken and the stone struck the driver's head. Following the incident, security has been increased in the surrounding areas and military vehicles have also been advised to remain vigilant.
