Kanchan Choudhary, the country's first woman DGP

The country's first woman director general of police, Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya, died in a Mumbai hospital after a prolonged illness.

Uttarakhand police chief Ashok Kumar confirmed the news. Kanchan Chowdhury Bhattacharya, IPS officer of the 1973 batch, made a history by accepting the post of Director General of Police of Uttarakhand in 2004. On October 31, 2007, Kanchan retired.

He got involved in politics in 2014 and contested parliamentary elections from the Haridwar Lok Sabha seat as the AAP candidate. However, Kanchan did not win this election. Your senior leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lamented over the news of his death.
