(PTI) New Delhi, Ta. August 26, 2019, Monday

Union Home Minister Amit Shah today reviewed the proceedings against Naxals and the development activities there in the states affected by leftist ideological terrorism (LWE).

Chief Ministers of Bihar, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and high-ranking police and charity officials from 10 states affected by Naxalism were present in the meeting.

The Home Minister had reviewed the developmental activities of the Naxalites in addition to the actions taken against the Naxalites in the states, a Home Ministry official said.

For the first time since the Shah took charge of the Home Ministry three months ago, paramilitary forces and Home Ministry officials were also present at such a meeting.

Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are among the 10 states in the country that are annoyed by Maoism.

There were 4969 cases registered during 2014-18 against 8782 registered cases of fake violence during 2009-13, showing a 43.4 percent reduction in terrorist activity.

Union Home Minister G Kishan Reddy said last month that as a result of Samarkar's stagnant policies, leftist ideologue-led terrorism has been steadily declining in sporadic violence and its geographical spread. In 2018, incidents of such violence were reported in only 60 districts.

Out of these 10 districts, only 66% of such incidents occurred. The government is providing special central assistance of Rs.1000 crore to fill job vacancies in the public service sectors of states affected by such violence.
