Heavy rains in Kerala, Karnataka and Maharashtra - Floods: Death toll rises to 89


So far four lakh people have been shifted to safer places in Maharashtra

In Kerala, Karnataka and Maharashtra, a total of 89 people have died due to floods caused by heavy rains in the last two days. Normal life in these three states has stalled. Relief and rescue operations are underway in all three states. The affected people are being shifted to safer places.

A total of 1.25 lakh people have been shifted to safer places in Kerala, including Wayanad and Kozhikode's 25,000. There have been 80 earthquake incidents in Kerala since August 8. Several people have been suspected of being trapped in the garbage in Kavanlappara in Malappuram and Puthumala in Wayanad.

Rat Alert has been issued for rainfall in eight Kerala districts of Ernakulam, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod. According to official figures provided by Kerala officials, a total of 1,24,464 people have been shifted to 1111 relief camps. Several trains have been canceled due to rains in Kerala.

Talking about Karnataka, Belagavi, Bagakalote, Vijayapura, Rachipur, Yadgir, Gadag, North Kannada, Haveri, Hubli-Dharwad, South Kannada, Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu districts were the worst affected. Many roads have been closed due to rain and landslides.

Many landslides have been reported in Maranahalli in Sakleshpur. Mangaluru village, a leaf in southern Kannada district, has been inundated with water. Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa has said that people need not worry as relief and rescue operations are the priority of the government.

On the other hand, the flood situation in Kolhapur and Sangli districts of Maharashtra is gradually improving. In both these districts, 26 teams of Navy have been deployed, including 26 boats and 110 personnel. According to the Meteorological Department of Rajasthan, rains are continuing in different parts of the state, including the capital Jaipur.

In the last 24 hours, Udaipur, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh and Sirohi districts have received 3 to 15 cm of rainfall. The maximum rainfall of 15 cm was recorded in Pratapgarh. Ajmer received 0.8 cm of rainfall from 8am to 6pm.
