9 children killed, 11 injured in school van valley collapse in Uttarakhand

Nine children were killed and 11 others injured in a school van 200 meters deep in Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. Tehri District Magistrate V Shanmugam said that the accident occurred on the Pratapnagar-Kangsli-Madan Negi Road, near Longgaon, 150 km from Dehradun.

Nine children were killed and 11 others injured at the scene. The driver fled after jumping from a van to protect himself. Five children with serious head injuries were flown to Rishikesh Aimes by air. The other five injured children are undergoing treatment at Boradi Hospital. Another injured child has been taken to Srinagar in Puri district by his parents.

The children in the van ranged in age from four years to 13 years. He left to attend Angels International School in Madanengi.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has expressed grief over the incident and ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. According to the official, the first cause of the accident is being considered as having more children than capacity. The van had a capacity of 10 passengers against which 21 were fitted.
