5.1 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar, impacts to northeastern states

Earthquake tremors were felt on Monday morning in eastern states including Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Assam and neighboring Myanmar. A magnitude 3.5 earthquake was felt in Silchar district of Assam at 4:21 pm in the early morning.

However, most people did not even know it because of its low intensity. In addition to the Khunsa of Arunachal Pradesh, an earthquake of magnitude 4.7 was reported 132 km east of Tuniseng, Nagaland.

In the neighboring country of Myanmar, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake erupted in Myanmar at 8am in the morning, scaring people to flee their homes. The epicenter of the quake was reported to be 80 km below ground in Myanmar. According to the Meteorological Department, earthquake effects were also felt in Dibrugarh, Dimapur Sadar, Imphal, Nagaon and Silchar areas of India.

The Solomon Islands archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean recorded a magnitude 5.3 earthquake 36 km north-east of the Bulala area. Earthquakes were also reported in several parts of the world on Monday.

Worldwide, shocks of 1.8 were reported at Clear Lake in Colombia, 3.2 at Hatatoba Tarutog in northern Sumatra, mild at Katla on the South Island, and 3.9 at Severnaya in southern Peru. However, no earthquake-related incidents have been reported so far.
