International Day of Happiness 2024: International Day of Happiness is celebrated every year in the month of March. Bhutan proposed the celebration

King Jigme Khesar Wangchuck of Bhutan proposed the celebration of the International Day of Happiness in the UN. The king there believed that the happiness of the people did not depend on the economic condition of the country. In the 1970s, Bhutan was the first country in the world to value people's well-being more than GDP. Hence the King passed a resolution to celebrate Happiness Day at the UN on 12 July 2012. Because on this very day Bhutan was opening its borders to foreigners. Bhutan has been able to maintain its position in the top 10 countries in the Happiness Index and is considered to be the happiest country in Asia.

Why is World Happiness Day celebrated on March 20?

There is a special reason behind choosing March 20 to celebrate the International Day of Happiness. March 20 is the equinox, meaning that the sun is exactly above the equator on this day, making day and night equal. This event occurs twice a year, once on March 20 and again on September 23. This is why World Happiness Day is celebrated today.

There are six main factors to measure whether a country is happier or less happy, measuring how happy people in a country are based on criteria such as social support, income, health, freedom, generosity and absence of corruption.

Indians are very behind in being happy

According to the Annual World Happiness Report 2024, people in India are far behind in being happy. India ranks 126th in terms of happiness among 146 countries of the world. Also, if we talk about the states of India, the people of Mizoram state are the happiest. While the people of Afghanistan have the last place in terms of being happy.
