Maldives Parliament: There has been a huge uproar and scenes of fights in the Maldives Parliament regarding the expansion of the Muijju cabinet. Parliament was due to vote on the expansion today, but the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) threatened to block the approval of the four ministers, with the ruling party also protesting. MPs from the ruling coalition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Mohamed Muizzu's party People's National Congress (PNC) are protesting in the House. The PPM-PNC, being in the minority in the House, does not want the vote to take place.
Riots and fights even before the polls
According to a Sun Online report, the incident took place ahead of the polling for President Muijju's cabinet. Ahead of the vote, government-backed MPs from the PNC-PPM came out in opposition to the MDP, led by former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. According to a local news channel, there has been an uproar after the opposition blocked the approval of four members of the Muijju cabinet.

News channel Adhadu also shared a video of the incident, in which MDP MP Isa and PNC MP Abdullah Shaheem are seen beating Abdul Hakeem. In the video, Shahim grabs Isa's leg, causing him to fall to the ground, after which Isa kicks Shahim's neck, pulling his hair. MP Shahim, who was injured in the incident, has been taken to the hospital for treatment.
An attempt to obstruct the functioning of the Government
The ruling PPM and PNC alliance has expressed concern over the opposition's attitude. The ruling party said that an attempt has been made to obstruct the working of the government by not allowing the four ministers.
