Dangerous bacteria found in world's largest chocolate plant, company halts production

Salmonella bacteria have been found in the world's largest chocolate plant in Belgium. The company informed about this on Thursday. Production at the factory has been halted after bacteria were found, the Berry Calebout company said.


Company spokesman Cornell Warlope said all products at the plant were tested and blocked. The company is currently contacting all customers who purchased their product. The production of chocolate has also been stopped till further orders.

What are Salmonella bacteria?


Salmonella bacteria are caused by salmonellosis infection. Salmonella is found in animals, including birds. These bacteria are usually transmitted to humans through animal feces, eating contaminated food. There are approximately 40,000 cases of salmonellosis in the United States each year.
