Three IT employees lost Rs. Embezzled Rs 1.5 crore TDS refund

The CBI has started an investigation against three employees of the Income Tax Department for obtaining fake TDS by abusing the system of senior officials of the Income Tax Department to return TDS.

The CBI has registered an FIR based on a complaint lodged by theJoint Commissioner of Income Tax , Muzaffarnagar. The Joint Commissioner of Income -tax , Muzaffarnagar, had lodged a complaint against three Group C employees of the Income-tax department, alleging misuse of RSA tokens by the assessing officers.

RSA is a system that automatically changes the user's password every 30 seconds. After filing the FIR, the agency has started investigations in several places.

The CBI has named three Income Tax officials, Abhay Kant ,Saurabh Singh and Rohit Kumar, inits probe into the case .

TheIncome-tax department has alleged that the officers fraudulently received refunds of Rs 1.5 crore between August 1 , 2020 and August 3 , 2021.

The scam came to light when the assessing authorities came to know about the refunds of taxpayers under section 13 of the IT Act which were not within its purview.

The agency further said that out of the amount received through fraud, Rs 3 lakh has been deposited in government accounts.
