Many countries around the world have locked down their embassies and recalled staff since the return of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan.
These countries also included India. However, after 10 months, India has reopened its embassy in Kabul. A team led by a joint secretary-level official has returned to Kabul, Afghanistan, and the Taliban government is pleased with India's move.
According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, the team will coordinate and monitor humanitarian assistance.
The Taliban has welcomed India's decision, saying the Afghan government welcomes India's decision to set up an embassy in Kabul to provide humanitarian assistance to the people here.
"India's reopening of the embassy shows that the country has a secure environment and all rights are being respected here," the spokesperson said.
The Taliban has also appealed to other countries to reopen their embassies.
India has begun sending relief supplies to Afghanistan after more than 1,000 people were killed in a magnitude 6.1 earthquake that struck the country on Wednesday.
