Outbreaks appear to be exacerbated during this time in Nepal, where street food has been banned

Nepal has banned the sale of food items on the roads in the Kathmandu Valley as part of an exercise to curb the spread of cholera in the capital. The decision to ban the sale of street food was taken by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City after 12 cholera patients have been reported in the area since Sunday.

Ban on selling street food in the city

Balraj Tripathi, head of the metropolitan health department, said the sale and distribution of food has been banned for some time due to the rising number of cholera patients in Kathmandu. The KMC has also warned of action against those who violated the order.

Ban on selling Panipuri in Lalitpur

Last week, Lalitpur Metropolitan City decided to ban the sale and distribution of Panipuri in the metropolis and claimed that cholera bacteria was found in the water used in Panipuri.

Appeal to take care of hygiene

KMC has also requested Food Control to check food hygiene in hotels and restaurants across the city. It has been requested to monitor the condition of water pipeline and sewerage system in Kathmandu. The KMC has also directed the urban health center to be ready to fight any possible shortage of oral rehydration salts and water purifying drugs.

Cholera is spread by contaminated water

Cholera is a bacterial disease that is usually spread by contaminated water. The disease causes severe diarrhea and de-hydration. Not getting treatment at the right time can prove fatal within a few hours.
