Kanaiyalal's killer Riaz has 9 siblings, family has been cut off for years

New Delhi, dated 29 June 2022, Wednesday

There is outrage across the country after the murder of a tailor named Kanaiyalal in Udaipur, Rajasthan for supporting Nupur Sharma.

Among the two killers who strangled Kanaiyalal, Mohammad Riaz is a resident of Bhilwara district and has nine other siblings. Three of these brothers have died.

Riaz's father Abdul Jabbar was originally a blacksmith from Jaisalmer district. His family later settled in Bhilwara and Ajmer.

Riaz moved to Udaipur after his father's death in 2001. His relationship with the family has almost been severed. He did not even come home when one of his brothers died.

One of his brothers living in Bhilwara said that Riaz is the 10th child among the brothers and sisters. He lived in Udaipur and I don't even know what he was doing. We haven't had contact with him for years.

"Riaz's actions have brought us into disrepute in Bhilwara," a nephew of Riaz told a news channel. Hindus also live in our mahalla and we have never had any problem. We are ashamed of the crime committed by Kaka.

Meanwhile, Bhilwara police have stepped up security in the area where Riaz's brothers live as part of a vigil.
