Call for boycott of Indian goods in Arab countries

New Delhi, Dt

Amid controversy over the discovery of 'Shivling' in Gyanvapi, the controversy over alleged remarks against Prophet Mohammad has reached international level. BJP leaders Nupur Sharma-Naveen Jidandal's statements sparked outrage in Arab countries and they launched a campaign to boycott Indian goods. Qatar summons Indian ambassador to protest

Two BJP leaders were expelled from the party on Sunday. However, the party's decision is now linked to the resentment of Arab countries. After Nupur Sharma's controversial remarks, anti-BJP and anti-India trends started on social media in Arab countries. A campaign was launched to boycott Indian goods. The campaign was launched by the Grand Mufti of Oman, Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalili. He said in a tweet that the official spokesperson of the ruling party in India had made obscene remarks against the ambassador of Islam. Against this all Muslims should oppose India as a nation. After Al-Khalili's statement, there was widespread opposition to India in the Arab world. As a result, the BJP-led central government's long-standing efforts to improve relations with Arab countries were thwarted.

Qatar and Kuwait also opposed Nupur Sharma's statement and both the countries sent summons to Indian ambassadors on the issue. The Qatari Foreign Ministry also issued a statement in this regard. In response, a spokesman for the Indian embassy said that stern action had been taken against those who made the controversial remarks. The Indian ambassador told the Qatari government that the controversial remarks had nothing to do with the Indian government. This tweet does not reflect the views of the Government of India. Qatar welcomed the action taken against both the BJP leaders.
