Being educated, a woman cannot be forced to work

Ahmedabad. Saturday, June 11, 2022

It is a personal decision of any woman whether she is educated and whether she should get a job or not.

According to the details of the case, the wife and husband had been living separately in Poona since 2013 after getting married in 2010. The wife had filed a domestic violence case against his wife seeking a divorce. The Poona court granted the divorce after arguments of both the parties and ordered alimony to the husband. The husband ordered the wife to pay Rs.5000 per month and Rs.7000 per month for the daughter's education.

The husband had challenged the Family Court order in the Mumbai High Court, arguing that his wife was a graduate and was working.

Mumbai High Court Justice Bharti Dangre observed in his order after the hearing that whether a woman is educated and whether to employ her or work at home is her personal decision. Just being educated cannot force him to do a job.

"Our understanding is to accept a woman as a housewife and not as a person who helps the family financially. Whether to work or not is a woman's choice. He is a graduate so he cannot be forced to work, "Justice Dangre said in his order.
