203 pilgrims killed in two months of Chardham Yatra


- In two months, 25 lakh pilgrims took advantage of the pilgrimage

- Most of the pilgrims killed were found to have more heart related ailments, the government advised a checkup before the journey.

Dehradun: According to figures released by the Uttarakhand Emergency Operations Center, 203 pilgrims involved in the Chardham Yatra, which started on May 3, have died since the start of the pilgrimage. More pilgrims have died, especially due to heart attacks.

Among the 206 pilgrims killed in the last two months, six are from the Kedarnath pilgrimage route. While 21 pilgrims died on the way to Badrinath Dham and 15 pilgrims on Gangotri while 3 pilgrims were on their way to Yamunotri route. Relief camps and medical facilities are also being provided in every area where pilgrims are coming.

Since the Char Dham Yatra started on May 3, a total of 6 lakh pilgrims have visited the Dham so far. However, this number has been declining sharply since last week. As more people were coming, the Uttarakhand government had issued an instruction that all those who wanted to come to Chardham Yatra should get their medical checkup done in advance. Health problems are especially prevalent among those who visit high-altitude temples.
