Gilberto Rodriguez of Venezuela set out on a trip to the United States with his dog two months ago to make his dream of a better life come true. Rodriguez is survived by his wife and two children. Negro means black in Spanish. During his travels, Rodriguez often went hungry, faced violence, and often bribed police. Rodriguez said that Negroes, like him, faced all sorts of troubles, eating only what Rodriguez ate and being a tourist like him. During their voyage so far, Rodriguez and the Negroes have had to cross the border of eight countries, from Caracas to Colombia, from the more dangerous Darian forest to Panama.

During the trip, Rodriguez and Negro confronted a criminal gang that targeted tourists fleeing poverty and political upheaval in their home country. "We were with some women, the criminal gang raped them, as far as we know they stole my phone," Rodriguez said. The pair made their way to Guatemala via Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras, where they joined a crowd of hundreds of other undocumented tourists.

Rodriguez said there were currently no crowds along the Guatemala River, as there were a few months ago. To stop the migration convoy here, the police stopped the buses and checked the passenger's documents. Guatemala has deported more than 500 tourists from Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Cuba since January this year.

Rodriguez said tourists have started moving in small groups to escape the police. So that they could reach Mexico. The final obstacle for them is the Rio Grande, which separates Mexico from the United States.
