Due to the open border between Nepal and India, hundreds of Indian women get married in Nepal every year. But then he had to go round the court-office for a marriage certificate. The previous communist government of Nepal cut the political and social rights of Indian women. At the same time, an Indian woman marrying a Nepali citizen had to wait for 7 years to get a citizenship certificate. However, the 7-year-old law had to be withdrawn after heavy protests.

Now the Deuba government of Nepal has made one more convenient law for Indian women getting married in Nepal. Indian women have previously had to prove their relationship in a Nepali court after marriage. The marriage could be registered in the local municipality or village municipality only after getting the approval of the court.

The Government of Nepal has amended Section 16 (6) of the National Identity Card and Registration Rules to remove the rule of attestation in court. Now any Indian woman who marries a Nepali citizen will get the marriage certificate directly from the ward office of her village municipality or municipality.

From now on, an Indian woman getting married in Nepal will have to submit a symmetrical document of renunciation of Indian citizenship along with her marriage certificate so that she can get the certificate of Matrimonial Adopted Citizenship of Nepal immediately.

However, the ruling Communist Party, like the Maoists, is still demanding that married women in Nepal be granted citizenship after at least seven years.

In the new constitution of Nepal, Indian daughters have been deprived of many political rights in Nepal for which the Madhesi Dal is still struggling. Now Indian daughters marrying in Nepal have been deprived of many high positions in Nepal such as President, Vice President, Speaker of Parliament, Chief of Army Staff, Chief Minister of the region, Speaker of the State Assembly.
