P. Five killed, 50 injured as train derails in Bengal


- 12 coaches of Bikaner Express overturned

- Passengers evacuated, railway officials not arriving at the scene for four hours

New Delhi: The Bikaner-Guwahati Express train derailed in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district. Five passengers were killed and more than 50 were injured. An exercise has been carried out to evacuate the passengers after 12 coaches overturned.

The express train from Bikaner to Guwahati crashed in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. Twelve coaches of the train derailed and five of them were severely damaged. According to the district collector, 31 ambulances have been deployed for relief and treatment work with immediate effect. BSF personnel also joined the relief operation.

Numerous passengers were trapped in the train compartment and an exercise was carried out to get them out. The injured passengers were admitted to nearby hospitals. For three-four hours after the accident, no high-ranking railway officials came to the spot and people were outraged.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had instructed the officials to immediately treat the injured and rescue operations were still being carried out on a war footing. On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi He had a telephone conversation with Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and got information about the tragedy.
