India gives excessive subsidy to farmers on wheat, US will file complaint against India in WTO

Washington, Ta. 21. Friday 2022 January

In India, US lawmakers have objected to subsidies on wheat to farmers.

The lawmakers demanded that the Biden government file a complaint against India in the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The 28 members of the US Congress have written a letter to the Biden administration on the issue, saying that the Indian government was giving more subsidies to its farmers and was hurting US producers. No more than 10% of production value can be subsidized.

The lawmakers urged President Biden, "We want you to sue India in the WTO. The rules made by the WTO are being ignored by the Indian government. Action needs to be taken as soon as possible to stop India."

A similar letter was written by 18 members of the Senate before the US Congressmen wrote the letter.

The United States has opposed India's subsidy in the past. The CEO of the National Association of Wheat Producers in the United States says India is a member of the WTO, so it must abide by its rules. Wants.

The US estimates that in the current year, India will sell 5 million metric tonnes of wheat in the international market and that other countries will suffer because of India's cheap wheat subsidy.
