Colombo: Inflation has hit India's neighbor Sri Lanka. Inflation has soared in Sri Lanka that vegetable prices have skyrocketed. In Sri Lanka, green chillies are currently selling at Rs 700 per kg while potato prices have crossed Rs 200 per kg.

Inflation in Sri Lanka has risen by 15 per cent in a single month. Which is also affecting vegetables. According to Sri Lankan inflation data, food inflation rose by 15 per cent between November 2021 and December 2021. The main reason is that vegetables are becoming more expensive.

At one time the price of 100 grams of chilli in Sri Lanka was 18 rupees but now it is 71 rupees. That means now chillies are getting Rs 700 per kg. Chilli prices have risen by 287 per cent in a single month.

Similarly, the price of eggplant has also gone up. Eggplants have become 51 per cent more expensive. While the price of onion has gone up by 40 per cent, the price of tomato has gone up by 10 per cent. People are currently buying potatoes at Rs 200 per kg. This means that the price of potato, which is considered to be the cheapest vegetable, has also skyrocketed.

There is a shortage of milk powder in Sri Lanka which cannot be imported. At present most of the vegetables are fetching from Rs 100 to Rs 300 per kg. People are also facing many difficulties in getting two meals a day as vegetables are becoming more expensive.
