For the first time in the third wave in the country, the number of new cases crossed 2.50 lakh

New Delhi, Dt
For the first time in the third wave of Corona epidemic in India, new cases have reached close to four lakh in a single day. While the world is currently going through the fourth wave of Corona, there has been a sharp rise in Corona cases in India as well. However, the death toll in the third wave is much lower in the country as compared to the second wave. In Kerala, 4.5 new cases of corona have been reported in a single day, which is the highest number of cases reported in a single day so far. In Gujarat too, 4.5 cases of corona have been reported in one day, which is the highest number of cases of corona in Gujarat for the third day in a row. The total number of active cases has also increased to 20,11,16 lakh, which is the highest in 3 days. Corona's death toll has also crossed 2,6,6.
The third wave of corona in India has seen a sharp rise in new cases, the health ministry said. However, widespread vaccination in the country over the last one year has played a significant role in saving lives in the third wave. Compared to the second wave in the country, the death rate in the third wave is much lower and the need for hospitalization of coronary infections is also less. At present, more than 5% of the adult population in the country has been given both doses and 5% of the population has been given one dose. During the second wave, only two percent of adults in the country were vaccinated.
Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that the number of infected people had gone up from 2.50 on April 1 to 4.5,6 on April 30. The number of active patients that day was 21,50,8. Correspondingly, the weekly average of patients dying from the infection in a single day rose from 313 to 4,09 on April 30. In comparison, the number of infected people in the third wave has increased from 4.5 on January 1 to 3.50 lakh on January 30. The number of active patients in the country is more than 20.11 lakh. But in the meantime, the weekly average of daily deaths was much lower than the second wave. On January 1, an average of 21 infected people died, while on January 30, 50 infected people died.
He added that 52 per cent of minors between the ages of 18 and 19 in the country have been given a single dose of the vaccine. Rejecting the claim that children were more infected in the third wave, Rajesh Bhushan said that out of the total number of children infected in the year 2020, 10 per cent were children and their average in total deaths was 0.5 per cent. In 2021, 11 per cent of the total infected children were children and their average death rate was 0.50 per cent. The third wave showed normal symptoms in children, but they did not need to be hospitalized.
Meanwhile, it is a matter of relief that the daily cases of corona in Delhi have come down. In Delhi, 18,309 cases were reported on Thursday, with four more deaths. The positivity rate also declined to 21.5 per cent. In Maharashtra too, the state government has decided to allow the opening of 1st to 8th standard schools from January 8 as the number of coronary cases has decreased. Schools in Maharashtra were closed from the first week of January as the third wave of Corona began.
The government, meanwhile, said corona testing at home was on the rise amid a third wave in the country. In the last 30 days, an estimated 200,000 people have undergone Corona tests at home. Last year, only 3,000 people took the test at home.
