Congress suspends 'Macedatu Padayatra' in Karnataka: This is our sacrifice for public interest

- High Court slaps govt for remaining inactive on the march: BJP's Bombay government then banned the walk

BENGALURU: The Karnataka Congress on Thursday temporarily suspended its 100-km 'Macedatu Padayatra', saying it was a sacrifice in the public interest.

In this regard, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President DK Shivakumar said that today we are also sacrificing our protest. 20 km from Bengaluru Rather than make these statements at a remote Ramnagar, Shivakumar said that this was only a temporary suspension, not permanent. But our opposition will continue. He did not say when or where the protests would take place.

The reason behind organizing the walk was to oppose the delay policy of the BJP government in Karnataka in constructing Mekedatu Sarovar in Ramnagar district on the Kaveri river. That protest march. It was launched on January 9 with Macedatu. But the Bommai government had a lax policy on that. As a result, about a hundred Congress workers started the march. But the number of Kovid transitions in Karnataka was on the rise and Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge was also looking positive to remain as Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. They have also joined this walk.

The Karnataka High Court, on the other hand, reprimanded the Bombay government for its indifference and eventually banned the walk.
