Mallya convicted of contempt of court in 2017, his review petition also rejected by the court

New Delhi: A contempt of court case is pending against Vijay Mallya in the Supreme Court. "We have been waiting a long time and now it is too late," the apex court said during the hearing. The court also clarified that Vijay Mallya has been found guilty of contempt of court and the matter will now go to a final hearing on January 18.

Vijay Mallya, who fled abroad with crores of rupees, was convicted in 2017 for contempt of court. A bench of Supreme Court judges UU Lalit, SR Bhat and Bella M Trivedi said the high courts have been waiting a long time. We can't wait any longer. This case of contempt against Vijay Mallya has to be completed. This process should now be completed.

The court said Vijay Mallya could not be waited for long or forever. The court had ordered Mallya to be present in the case. He was not present, however. The court had earlier convicted Vijay Mallya in a contempt case in 2017, though Mallya had filed a review petition which was also dismissed. The court also sought the help of senior advocate Jagdeep Gupta as a friend of justice.
