Opposition walkout from both houses of Parliament on support price, suspension of 12 MPs

Outraged by Naidu's refusal to withdraw MPs' suspension

Last year 5579 farmers committed suicide, in 2019 the number was 5957, the government is happy with the slight reduction.

With the exception of SC, ST, no census has ever been conducted since independence: Center

New Delhi: Twelve Rajya Sabha MPs from the parties, including the Congress, which had rallied during the last monsoon session, have been suspended for the current winter session. Opposition groups called for a boycott of the assembly. On the second day of the winter session in Parliament, the opposition demanded that the decision to suspend MPs be reversed.

The Rajya Sabha Speaker M. Venkaiah Naidu refused to accept. So the Opposition walked out of the Rajya Sabha. Apart from the Rajya Sabha, the Opposition also made a big splash in the Lok Sabha. Following which the proceedings of the Lok Sabha had to be adjourned for the second day in a row.

The new MPs were sworn in after the Lok Sabha proceedings began, shortly after which TRS MPs rushed to the well and demanded legislation for support prices. At the same time, they demanded compensation to the families of the farmers who were killed in the agitation against the agricultural laws.

TRS MPs rushed to the well while Congress and Left MPs sat in their seats and joined the demand. TRS MPs also chanted slogans. However, after a while, MPs from Congress, NCP, Left, DMK and other parties walked out of the Lok Sabha.

Many parties are demanding that the current census be based on caste, in response to which the government has argued that after independence, there is no caste-based census except SCs and STs. So it is clear that the government is not ready to conduct a caste-based census.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Narendrasinh Tomar said that 5579 farmers across the country committed suicide last year as against 5957 in 2019. However, the reasons for farmers' suicide were not disclosed.

Among the farmers who committed suicide last year were 2567 farmers from Maharashtra, 1072 from Karnataka, 564 from Andhra Pradesh, 235 from Madhya Pradesh and 227 from Chhattisgarh. With the general decline in figures, the government said the figures have declined.
