Government-Kisan Morcha standoff over withdrawal of cases against farmers

New Delhi, Dt
Despite the central government's withdrawal of controversial agricultural laws, farmers are determined to continue their agitation on the issue of their other demands. An important meeting of the United Kisan Morcha was held on Saturday. At the meeting, the front has formed a five-member committee to negotiate with the government on issues like MSP, withdrawal of cases against farmers. The next farmers' meeting will now be held on December 9. On the other hand, the government has not responded to the issue of withdrawing cases against farmers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the day of Guru Nanak Jayanti announced the withdrawal of three controversial agricultural laws and urged the farmers to return home after concluding the agitation. However, the farmers said that the agitation would not end till the agriculture law was repealed in the parliament. He also expressed his determination to continue the agitation on demands including assurance of support price (MSP), withdrawal of cases against farmers, compensation to the families of farmers killed during the agitation.
A five-member committee has been formed at Saturday's meeting of the United Kisan Morcha, which will now hold talks with the government. The committee consists of Yudhvir Singh, Shivkumar Kakka, Balbir Rajewal, Ashok Dhawale, Gurnam Singh Chadhuni.
In this regard, Rakesh Tikait said that this would be the main committee of the United Kisan Morcha, which would take all important decisions. So far the government has not officially called us for talks. If the government calls, these five people will go for talks. Rakesh Tikait reiterated that the farmers' movement is not over yet.
Yogendra Yadav said the five-member committee formed by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha was intended to discuss only its demands with the government. The five-member committee set up by the central government to negotiate the MSP issue has nothing to do with the committee. The agitation will not stop until the case against the farmers is withdrawn and they are given compensation.
During the meeting of the United Kisan Morcha held on the Singhu border on Saturday, a list of 203 farmers who were martyred in the agitation was handed over to the Agriculture Secretary by the Kisan Morcha. The meeting discussed the withdrawal of cases registered against MSPs and farmers. At the same time, it was decided that the agitation would continue. In fact, some farmers' organizations are advocating for a return home after the withdrawal of agricultural laws, while Rakesh Tikait has made it clear that if the cases registered against MSPs and farmers are not withdrawn, the agitation will continue till the families of martyred farmers get compensation.
