Finally, the dragon flew: India's protest was successful, the 'solar-plant' project in Sri Lanka quit.

New Delhi: Dragon has finally had to bow to India's opposition, halting construction of a solar-plant in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan media have reported that China has stopped construction of a 'hybrid energy system' project in Sri Lanka. The project was operated by China's 'Sino-Solar Hybrid Company' on six islands of Sri Lanka.

In fact, India was already opposed to the hybrid energy system project in Sri Lanka. Earlier in January this year, India had protested against the Chinese company Sino-Solar-Hybrid's monopoly on setting up a solar plant in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka has just given the monopoly of the 'East-Container-Terminal' on the Colombo port to a Chinese company. The monopoly was to be given to India and Japan first, and Sri Lanka was committed to it. It didn't happen though.

The Chinese embassy in Colombo said in a tweet that the solar energy system project in the northern islands of Sri Lanka had been suspended due to safety concerns raised by a third yajna. However, the Chinese embassy did not mention India's name, but needless to say it was referring to India.

The Chinese embassy said the company has now signed a contract with the Maldives.

Elaborating further, the Chinese embassy said in a tweet that the Chinese solar-hybrid technology company was suspending the construction of a hybrid-energy system in three northern islands due to third-party security concerns. The company signed a contract with the Maldivian government on November 9 to set up power plants on 12 islands in the Maldives.
