WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange allowed to marry in jail

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been allowed to marry his partner Stella Morris in prison, British authorities said in a statement. Assange has been lodged in London's High Security Belmarsh Prison since 2013. Assange is facing US extradition efforts.

The relationship between Assange and Stella Morris began seven years ago at the Ecuadorian embassy in London. South African-born lawyer Stella Morris and Assange have two children. Four-year-old Gabriel and two-year-old Max.

In January, the judge rejected a US request to extradite Assange, although Assange remained in prison as the High Court considered the extradition request.

Assange and Morris announced their relationship in April 2020. However, the date of the wedding has not been announced yet. The United States has filed 16 espionage cases against Assange. He has also been charged with computer misuse.
