The term of the ED-CBI director has been extended from two to five years

Controversy over government ordinance ahead of winter session of Parliament

Modi-Shah is making a mockery of Parliament by shamefully issuing ordinances: TMC MP Derek

The term of the CBI-ED director was two years and was extended by three years

New Delhi: The tenure of directors of ED and CBI has been extended. On Sunday, the tenure of the Director of ED and CBI of the Government of India was extended to five years as against the current two years. However, the government's decision has been opposed by the opposition.

Opposition parties have stated they will not run in the by-elections, as the government has decided to take up the issue in the coming days. Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC) and CPI (M) on Sunday lashed out at the Center for extending the term.

Criticizing the central government's ordinance extending the tenure of CBI and ED directors to five years, the Opposition said the government should have waited for the session to begin in Parliament.

From now on, the term of directors of CBI and ED will be extended from two years to five years. The parliamentary session, on the other hand, is set to begin on November 29. This means that the government has issued an ordinance 15 days before the commencement of the parliamentary session, extending the tenure of the directors of CBI and ED to five years.

Speaking on the issue, CPIM general secretary Sitaram Yechury said the central government had decided to extend the tenure of CBI and ED directors without scrutiny. Which shows that the government is in a hurry in this matter.

TMC MP Derek O'Brien said the ordinance was meant to make a mockery of parliament. Modi and Amit Shah are issuing ordinances without any shame and are insulting Parliament. A similar decision was made today in which the stage has been set for keeping their beloved pet parrots.
