MUMBAI: On the anniversary of the 26/11 terror attacks, panic erupted over a threatening letter from RDX demanding Rs 50 lakh at the Vaijnath temple in Parli, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. Police arrested two persons from Nanded on suspicion in the case.
The Beed Police, Anti-Terrorism Squad, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad carried out a thorough investigation of the temple and its surroundings. No suspicious items were found. Security at the temple was beefed up following the threat.
Temple secretary Rajesh Deshmukh received the threatening letter yesterday. The letter demanded Rs 50 lakh. The temple was told to blow up the RDX if the amount was not received. The temple receives large donations. I am a big hooligan, drug mafia, pistol holder, I need 50 lakh rupees.
The letter stated that the money would be delivered to the address given in the letter or the temple would be blown up. The letter contained the name and mobile phone number of the hobby of Nanded. Police went to Nanded and arrested two persons. The suspect claimed that someone had mentioned his name in a false case.
