Shiv Sena requests Center to withdraw Padma Shri award

The BJP also condemned Kangana's statement

MUMBAI: Actress Kangana Ranaut, who has sparked controversy by making offensive statements about India's independence, has been the subject of numerous protests in Mumbai and Pune. Sahu has unanimously requested the Central Government to withdraw Kangana's Padma Shri award.

At Balgandharv Chowk in Pune, NCP workers today staged a huge protest against Kangana and chanted slogans like 'Kangana Padma Shri Vapas Do'. Kangana stated that the independence achieved in 1947 was a 'begging'.

True freedom came after 2014. Shiv Sena, NCP and other parties have strongly protested against this statement saying that it has insulted the freedom fighters and freedom fighters who sacrificed everything for the independence of the country.

Shiv Sena expresses indignation: Shiv Sena protested against Kangana's statement and requested the Center to withdraw the Padma award given to the actress. Kangana's offensive statement was also condemned by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Reacting, BJP state president Chandrakant Patil said that no one has the right to make offensive remarks about the country's freedom struggle.
