Rawat has been serving as the Indian Ambassador to the Netherlands since January 2021. Rawat, who is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, spent most of his career as a diplomat in China or took charge of China in New Delhi. He was sent as India's Ambassador to Indonesia during the three years from 2017 to 2020. It is pertinent to mention that at present there is a huge conflict and dispute between India and China over the issue of borders along the Line of Actual Control.
