Maharashtra: Padma Vibhushan-awarded historian-writer Babasaheb Purandare dies at 99

Well known Indian historian and writer Babasaheb Purandare passed away at the Dinanath Mangeshkar Memorial Hospital in Pune on Monday morning. He was 99 years old. Purandare was admitted to the hospital on Saturday and was later kept on a ventilator as his condition worsened, according to the hospital administration. His condition has not improved since then.

It was learned that Baba Purandar had fallen in the bathroom of his house. He was then taken to hospital. Fans across the country have mourned his death.

Babasaheb Purandar was a popular historian-writer of the country and also a theater artist. He is famous for his expertise on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Baba Purandare has written many books on the life of Shivaji, his administration and the forts of his time. Apart from that he also directed a popular play on Chhatrapati's life and leadership style - Janata Raja.
