Extreme weather in Sri Lanka kills 26

Colombo: Extreme weather in Sri Lanka has killed at least 26 people and affected 2.30 lakh in recent days, authorities said on Friday.

In Sri Lanka, October and November are generally considered the northeastern monsoon months, but this time it rained more than normal in most parts of the country. Bad weather has killed 26 people so far and 2.30 million have been badly affected.

Six of the dead were electrocuted, the Disaster Management Center said. According to the information released by the center, the intensity of rains has gradually decreased and the water level has also started declining so that the life in the affected areas is slowly declining.

The closed gates of many reservoirs, which were flooded due to heavy rains, are now slowly being reopened. However, the meteorological department is still forecasting rains in some parts of the country.
