Aircel-Maxis case

Evidence enough to send summons regarding chargesheet filed by EDA and CBI: Court

New Delhi: A Delhi court has summoned the CBI and the ED to appear before the court on December 20 in connection with the chargesheet filed against former Union Minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram in the Aircel-Maxis case.

Ordering the issuance of summons, Special Judge MK Nagpal said, "We have sufficient evidence that there is sufficient evidence against Chidambaram and the other accused in the money laundering case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED). Summons are issued. The CBI and the ED had earlier told the court that letters had also been sent to Britain and Singapore seeking information on the probe.

The case alleges alleged irregularities in the approval of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) in the Aircel Maxis agreement. Chidambaram was the Union Finance Minister at the time the approval was given in 2006. The CBI and the ED have alleged that Finance Minister P Chidambaram had given the go-ahead outside his purview.
