BJP's 8th victory out of 6 assembly seats in 12 states

New Delhi, Dt
The results announced on Tuesday in eight assembly and three Lok Sabha seats in 12 states ahead of next year's assembly elections in five states have proved to be eye-opening for the BJP. In Himachal and Bengal, the BJP has suffered a crushing defeat. However, Assam kept the BJP ashamed as well as Bihar and the northeastern states gave more seats to the NDA. The Congress has won a maximum of eight of the eight assembly seats, directly challenging the BJP for the next elections. The Congress has won the largest number of seats in the Assembly as a party, while the NDA, with the help of allies, won a total of 11 out of 20 seats. The by-elections were dominated by the ruling parties of most of the states except Himachal.

Out of the eight assembly seats in 17 states, the NDA won 12, the Congress eight and the Trinamool Congress four, while two seats went to other parties. Out of the three Lok Sabha seats, BJP, Congress and Shiv Sena won one seat each. Apart from Himachal, the Congress has beaten the BJP in Rajasthan and Karnataka in the Assembly elections. In Rajasthan, the Congress has retained its seat and snatched a BJP seat.
In Himachal Pradesh, the Congress has wiped out the BJP before Diwali. In Himachal, elections were held for one Lok Sabha and three Assembly seats. The Congress won all these seats and wiped out the BJP. Not only did the Congress win the Fatehpur, Jubbal Kotkhai, Arki assembly seats in the state, the BJP candidate's deposit was also confiscated at the Jubbal Kotkhai seat. With the Assembly elections scheduled for next year in Himachal Pradesh, the defeat has put the opposition in an aggressive mood against the BJP. The BJP's defeat will have a direct impact on the political stature of Chief Minister Jairam Thakur. However, in Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Jairam Thakur has slammed the party for its defeat. He said the BJP has suffered a car defeat due to rising inflation.
The ruling Trinamool Congress has won all four seats in the West Bengal Assembly by-elections. The Trinamool has snatched two seats from the BJP while retaining two of its seats in the by-elections. Trinamool has won two seats by a margin of one lakh and the other two seats by a margin of more than 50,000 votes. In Bengal, the Trinamool won more than 5 per cent of the vote in four seats, while the BJP and other parties got the remaining 5 per cent.

The landslide victory of the Trinamool Congress in Bengal will give impetus to Mamata Banerjee's campaign to rally the opposition against the BJP ahead of the 206 Lok Sabha elections. Celebrating the victory, Mamata Banerjee tweeted, "Congratulations to all four winning candidates." This victory shows that Bengal will always prefer development and unity over the politics of false propaganda and hatred. Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar, on the other hand, claimed that the BJP was defeated due to Trinamool's 'fear of terror' in the state. He added that the victory of a margin of more than one lakh votes in the by-elections clearly shows that the people have become so intimidated by the ruling party that they cannot even vote freely and fairly.
Meanwhile, by-election results in Bihar and four northeastern states saved the reputation of the BJP-led NDA. The BJP and its allies have won all the 10 by-elections in the four northeastern states. In Assam, the BJP won nine of the five seats, while its ally, the United People's Party, won two. After the victory, Assam Chief Minister Hemant Bishwa Sarma said, "Today's victory is reassuring. We promise to continue on the path of development on PM Modi's vision. In Meghalaya, the BJP's ally, the National People's Party, won two of the seven seats, while one seat went to the United Democratic Party. In Mizoram too, the BJP's ally Mizo National Front won the seat. The MNF now has eight of the state's 20 assembly seats. In Bihar, Kusheshwarsthan and Tarapur assembly seats have been won by NDA's ally JDU.
