CBI Special Director Praveen Sinha also elected as Interpol delegates

ISTANBUL: A controversial official from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been elected as the new president at the 89th Annual General Meeting of Interpol, which has a key responsibility to uphold international law. Praveen Sinha, special director of India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), was also elected as Asia's delegate at the meeting.

UAE Major General Ahmed Nasser Al-Raisi has been elected President of Interpol for a one-year term. However, the officer has been charged with aggravated robbery and inhumane treatment and torture. Ming Hongwei of China was serving as the head of the Interpol and his term was four years.

But in the year 2018, when he was going to his hometown China, he disappeared in the middle of the road. However, he later found out that he had serious allegations of corruption, so he was arrested by the Chinese authorities. Brazil's Valdesi Urquiza was elected vice-president of Interpol's Americas.

Nigeria's Garba Baba Umar was also elected vice-president to represent the African continent. In this election, candidates from China, Singapore, India, Korea and Jordan were fielded for the post of two delegates from Asia.
