An additional Rs. 10,000 crore allocated

In addition to the budget allocation, the finance ministry has released an additional Rs 10,000 crore for MGNREGA earlier this month, the rural development ministry said in a statement.

The nodal ministry for implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MNREGA) scheme, the Ministry of Rural Development further said that a decision on whether to allocate more would be taken after reviewing the demand during the revised estimate stage.

In this year's budget, the government has allocated Rs 5,000 crore for MGNREGA for the financial year 2021-2. In the previous year, Rs 21,200 crore was initially allocated for MGNREGA. This amount was then increased to Rs 1.11 lakh crore.

According to sources, an additional Rs 10,000 crore has been allocated for MGNREGA earlier this month as the budget allocation for the current financial year has been utilized.

The Ministry of Rural Development has said that the Ministry of Finance is informed whenever additional funds are required. It may be mentioned that an additional Rs 50,000 crore was allocated in the last financial year.

10,000 crore has been allocated at the beginning of this month. Even after this, if more funds are required, more funds will be allocated.
