We will end the grandfathering of crude by eliminating petrol-diesel

New Delhi: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has said that imports of petrol and diesel should be reduced and fuel pollution should also be reduced. Currently we will use biofuel, methanol, electric vehicles, biodiesel, CNG and LPG and LNG if needed. But let's not let the petrol-diesel monopoly or grandstanding continue.

He said how much pollution there is in Delhi. We have to go to the doctor constantly. 90% of diseases are caused by air and water pollution. My clear view is that no country or group's grandfatherhood runs on petrol-diesel. Alternative arrangements will be made, green hydrogen is the fuel of the future. India will be the largest exporter of green hydrogen in the future. Prime Minister Modi has given a new direction to green hydrogen. We will be world leaders in it.

In the same way that crude exporters are currently dictating their terms, we will be able to impose our own terms on green hydrogen. Even so, India will abide by its terms in the case of green hydrogen.

He said the use of petrol-diesel vehicles is spreading pollution in the country. Our country needs to be protected from three types of pollution. At present, the auto sector has a turnover of Rs 3.5 lakh crore. Its contribution to GDP is 7.1 per cent. This is the number one segment of the country and it provides employment to 50 million people. Almost all the reputed companies in this sector are available in India. I am confident that in the next five years we will become number one in the auto sector.

What is special about electric vehicles is that their global sales have increased by 150 per cent compared to last year. Petrol costs Rs 10 per km, diesel Rs 8 and electric vehicles Rs. It costs one rupee.
