There is no irregularity in the appointment of Rakesh Asthana: High Court


Asthana will remain in the post of Delhi Police Commission

New Delhi: Rakesh Asruthana has been selected for the post of Delhi Police Commissioner, a petition challenging him has been filed in the Delhi High Court. The High Court has dismissed the petition. A bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Jyotisinh dismissed the plea.

With this, Rakesh Asruthana has got relief from the High Court and he will continue to serve as Delhi Police Commissioner. Rakesh Asrutha, a 1984 bench IPS officer, was the BSF chief and was appointed Delhi Police Commissioner just four days before his retirement.

Lawyer Sadre Alam had filed a petition in the Delhi High Court against the appointment of him as a police commissioner despite his retirement. He challenged the decision of the Home Ministry to appoint Rakesh Asruthana as Delhi Police Commissioner. The petitioner also claimed that the appointment was in violation of the order of the Supreme Court.
