Supreme Court issues notice to 43 farmers' organizations on picketing issue at Delhi borders

PIL to remove farmers from the picket site

It used to take 20 minutes to travel from Noida to Delhi but now it takes two hours due to the picket: claim in PIL

New Delhi: Farmers have been protesting on the Delhi border for several days in protest of agricultural laws. The apex court has sought reply from 43 farmers' organizations on the PIL filed to evict farmers from the area. Among them are farmer leaders Rakesh Tikait, Darshan Pal and Gurnam Singh.

Noida resident Monica Agarwal had filed a PIL. In which he claimed that it used to take 20 minutes to reach Delhi from Noida. It now takes two hours to reach Delhi as farmers are picketing on the Delhi border. As a result, areas like UP Gate are facing a lot of difficulties.

Arguing in the Supreme Court on behalf of the Haryana government, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said the Haryana government has also constituted a panel to interact with farmers. Farmers, however, have refused to negotiate.

The apex court had earlier allowed the government to make the farmers' associations a party in the whole matter, but now they have also been sent a notice and a reply has been sought. Earlier, the apex court had said that it was not appropriate for farmers to block highways while the entire case was pending in the apex court.
