Retail inflation eases to 5.5 per cent in September

Retail inflation eased to 7.5 per cent in September on lower food prices, according to government data. At the same time, retail inflation fell to a five-month low in September.

Inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), was 8.50 per cent in August, 2011 and 7.5 per cent in September, 2010. According to data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO), food inflation eased to 0.2 per cent in September 2011. Food inflation was 9.11 per cent in August 2011.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) takes CPI-based inflation into account in its monetary policy review. According to RBI estimates, CPI-based retail inflation will remain at 7.5 per cent for the full year (2021-2). It will be 2.1 per cent in the second quarter, 7.5 per cent in the third quarter and 7.5 per cent in the fourth quarter.

On the other hand, industrial production rose to 11.5 per cent in August. The low base effect and the good performance of the manufacturing, mining and power sectors have led to an increase in industrial production.

The manufacturing sector has a weightage of 7.5 per cent in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP). Manufacturing sector output grew by 4.5 per cent in August, according to data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO).

Mining sector output grew by 7.5 per cent in August. While the output of the power sector has increased by 12 per cent. According to NSO data, August, 2021 IIP stood at 121.1 points. Which was 114.5 points in August, 2020. Which was 12.5 points in August, 2016.

In August 2020, IIP-based industrial production declined by 2.1 per cent. In March last year, IRP-based industrial production fell by 12.5 per cent due to the Corona epidemic.
