Preeti Chandra, wife of former Unitech owner Sanjay Chandra, was arrested by the ED


New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Preeti Chandra, wife of former Unitech owner Sanjay Chandra, in a money laundering case. Apart from Sanjay Chandra's wife, father Ramesh Chandra has also been arrested in a money laundering case.

Apart from this, a person named Rajesh Malik has also been arrested. He is accused of embezzling buyers' money and investing it in real estate. The ED also recently seized two properties worth Rs 32 crore in Noida.

Sanjay Chandra and his brother are already lodged in Mumbai Jail. Before that he was in Tihar Jail. He has been sent to Mumbai Jail on the orders of the Supreme Court. The apex court had directed the Tihar Jail administration to probe the case, which is being investigated by the Delhi Police Commissioner himself.

A case of bank fraud has been registered against Ramesh Chandra, founder of real estate company Unitech Limited, and his two sons Sanjay and Ajay Chandra. All three are accused of defrauding Canara Bank of Rs 198 crore. The bank said in a complaint filed last month that it had been a customer of Unitech 121 and had borrowed several times in the meantime, but had recently filed for bankruptcy several times.
