The Center today assured the apex court that the counseling of Knit-PG would not be started till the apex court rules on the 3 per cent reservation for OBCs and 10 per cent for EWS in the PG All India quota seat.

Additional Solicitor General (ASG) KM Nataraja on behalf of the Government of India assured before a bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and BV Nagaratna. He said medical students would face serious problems if counseling was started without a Supreme Court ruling on the issue.

Some NIT candidates had submitted to the Supreme Court that the Director General of Health Services had announced the commencement of NIT-PG counseling from October 8, but no official announcement has been made yet.

Following the submission of the Additional Solicitor General, the Bench said, "We take your statement on record until a final decision is taken by the Supreme Court on the reservation."

It may be mentioned that the result of Knit PG was announced on September 7 and the individual score cards were announced on October 8. Meanwhile, the results of the Nit-UG are likely to be declared by October 30. However, no official announcement has been made in this regard.
